Administrative and Session-related FAQ

  • No, as we are a private practice that is not a social service agency. However, we offer reduced rates comparable to subsidised rates in public health settings during periods when we are supporting trainee therapists on their clinical training.

  • No. Our therapists are committed to providing fair access to therapy in spite of any potential limitations to your availability.

    • No, as we believe that it is important for clients to engage with therapy voluntarily, instead of feeling obligated to fulfil a package. Therapy is a collaborative process in which you are an active participant, and not a passive recipient of a service rendered to you. Should you have any concerns about the longer-term cost of sessions, we encourage you to discuss this with your therapist.

    • No, as we believe that the therapeutic relationship (i.e., the relationship between client-and-therapist) is at the core of what makes therapy effective. As with all relationships, establishing trust and safety is something that requires consistency and time to develop. While a brief, introductory call or ‘chemistry’ session might offer you an initial impression of a therapist, it is unlikely to be an accurate representation of the potential therapeutic relationship and instead, undermines this process.

    • As part of determining whether a therapist is the right fit for you, we encourage for any anxieties or apprehensions regarding the therapist/the therapy to be raised in the first session, so that there is opportunity for these matters to be explored and addressed directly, especially if commitment or interpersonal relationships are an area of concern for you.

    • Finding the right therapist and establishing good rapport is a collaborative process that requires commitment and consistency in attending sessions. It is okay to explore different therapists until you find one with whom you feel comfortable and supported. This means that it is also okay to request for a change in therapist if you don’t feel that the fit is right after a few sessions. Afterall, the therapeutic relationship (i.e., the relationship between client-and-therapist) is a crucial factor in successful therapy outcomes.

    • It would be helpful if you are able to identify your needs and clarify the reasons for seeking therapy. If you are unsure, feel free to speak to one of our staff who will be happy to offer some guidance or therapist recommendations based on your concerns.

    • At the initial sessions, trust your intuition as it is important for you to feel comfortable and safe with your therapist. Be open about your thoughts/feelings and concerns, and discuss with your therapist if their therapeutic approach aligns with your therapy goals. There is no one-size-fits-all approach. Be patient with yourself and your therapist as regular feedback will allow for adjustments to be made.

    • We understand that it may not be easy to express concerns about the therapy/the therapist in your sessions. Common barriers to this include:

      • worries that the therapist will be offended

      • that your concerns are not warranted or that they might be dismissed

      • and/or other potential negative repercussions on the therapy relationship

    • Know that you have the right to voice your concerns and preferences.

    • Should you feel that therapy is not working for you, we strongly encourage you to bring this up with your therapist, or ask to speak to our Clinic Manager if you feel that you are unable to resolve this with your therapist. We will be happy to present you with options to work with another therapist either within our clinic or at another clinic if you feel that a change is required.

    • Depending on the therapist, we are usually able to offer a weekday appointment within a week, however there may be a wait time for evening or Saturday sessions.

    • We will need to verify you or your child’s identify - Please bring along the necessary proof of identification documents (e.g., You or your child’s NRIC/birth certificate/passport).

    • For adult clients, we will send you our pre-registration form and therapy agreement form at the point of booking for you to complete and review prior to the session. Alternatively, you may wish to come in ~10min earlier to complete the form.

    • Keep in mind that there is no “right” way to approach the first session, and you should not feel pressured to disclose more than you are comfortable to share with your therapist.

    • For child clients: read our TPP How-to Prepare Your Child for Therapy Guide.

    • Do travel safe, and inform us if you are able to. Kindly note that your therapist will only be able to see you up till the end of your allocated appointment time.

    • We would greatly appreciate if you are able to inform us ahead of time (at least 24 hours) when you need to cancel or reschedule your session.

    • For subsequent sessions, any cancellations or requests to reschedule your appointment that are < 24h to your appointment time will incur the full session fee. Read more about our Cancellation Policy in our TPP Therapy Agreement & Telehealth Consent Policy.

    • You are welcome to have a friend/partner/family member accompany you to your appointment, however for individual sessions, we recommend for this to be discussed with your therapist prior to inviting a third party to your sessions.

    • Yes, we will require consent from at least 1 parent or a legal guardian in order for you to commence therapy.
