Andrea’s journey as a clinical psychologist began in Perth, Western Australia where she lived for over a decade and completed her training. She has garnered experience in numerous public mental health settings that include community outpatient clinics in Singapore and Australia, drug and alcohol rehabilitation (Australia), and child protection services (Australia). She spent 13 years at the Institute of Mental Health/Woodbridge Hospital (IMH) in Singapore and was a senior member of the Psychology Department and Psychotherapy Services. During this time, she has worked with adults who have presented at both the general and forensic inpatient psychiatric wards, as well as the hospital outpatient clinic. In addition to psychotherapy, Andrea is adept at conducting psychological assessments (IQ, neuropsychological, and personality) for medical/legal/forensic purposes. Prior to her departure from IMH, she was one of the pioneer members of a specialist team for psychological trauma, and was a supervisor to other clinical psychologists and psychiatry senior residents. She has also held teaching positions at Murdoch University (Australia) and Ngee Ann Polytechnic (Singapore).
While she has been trained in a multitude of psychotherapy modalities that include, but are not limited to: Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Schema Therapy, Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), and Prolonged Exposure (PE), her primary orientation as a therapist and clinical supervisor is in Psychodynamic Psychotherapy.
With a trauma-focused approach to psychotherapy, Andrea is a non-directive and unassuming therapist who looks beyond diagnostic labels and who values the creation of a safe therapeutic space to hold her clients. Her areas of interest include working with issues arising from childhood adversity/trauma; attachment and interpersonal difficulties; and difficulties with emotional awareness/regulation - all of which may be exhibited in disorders of mood, anxiety, personality, stress or trauma-related and other chronic or complex presentations (e.g. dissociation).
As a firm believer that learning is a life-long journey, Andrea is currently completing her doctoral studies and works on a part-time basis.
